Lights for Christ Ministries was founded by Melvin Blaine Hughart Jr. in 2005. The eldest of eight children, Rev. Hughart was born to poor, uneducated parents. His childhood was marked by frequent moves between the homes of family members, which continued until he was 15 years old. At 17, Melvin’s grandmother invited him to church, where he was “born again.”
After this religious awakening, Melvin became Rev. Hughart and developed a passionate, ever-growing desire to share his experience with others. He practiced evangelism tirelessly for over 20 years, eventually building a family of his own with six children and two grandchildren, before he decided to take the next step of his journey through Lights for Christ Ministries.
Our church was established as a nonprofit 501c3 organization in 2005. For the first two years, we rented a local hall for church service. After some time, we financed a new building which we were miraculously able to pay off after only six years. After another church in a more convenient location became available, we moved our ministry once more.
Today, our services take place in a 75-seat sanctuary, which we are planning to renovate into a 300-seat facility with a baptismal, private offices, and six classrooms. As a full gospel church, we believe in the virgin birth, the crucifixion, the resurrection of the dead and the second coming. Visit Lights for Christ Ministries to join us in our journey toward salvation through Christ.
